SAN DIEGO COUNTY — November 5, 2026. Motorists traveling between State Route 75 and Interstate 5 should expect a scheduled ramp closure early Saturday, November 7. Caltrans District 11 says the northbound SR-75 connector to northbound I-5 will close from 3 a.m. to 8 a.m. for drainage cleaning.

How to reach northbound I-5

Caltrans directs drivers to continue north on SR-75 toward the southbound I-5 connector, use the National Avenue / 27th Street exit, turn right onto National Avenue and then right onto the northbound I-5 on-ramp. The route follows the agency’s published detour; drivers should obey posted detour signs in case field conditions change.

Why an early-morning closure?

Drainage work is a routine part of highway maintenance. Cleaning and inspecting drainage infrastructure helps roads handle rain and runoff; Caltrans did not describe this particular closure as a flood emergency. The scheduled hours are designed for a limited work window, but construction plans can change with weather, incidents or operational needs.

Travel advice

Drivers going to work, the airport, the port area or other early activities should check Caltrans QuickMap before setting out. A regional rail maintenance closure is also scheduled the same weekend on three Metrolink lines, though that is a separate project.
